How to not be a sleaze bag

Wednesday, October 11th, 2006

1. Don’t try to get away with things. The definition of corruption is trying to get away with something.

2. Don’t ask other people to do something you wouldn’t do yourself.

That’s it. Now you’re not a sleaze bag anymore.

Podcasts I like

The Ricky Gervais show is still the best podcast that I know of. There were 12 episodes, 30 minutes each. Every episode was laugh-out-loud hysterical. They’re still producing episodes, but they charge now, and I don’t want to pay for a podcast. For me, the Ricky Gervais show made podcast something more than another internet word that people say more than they do.

Existentialism in Literature and Film was a course at Berkley that podcast for free. It’s right up my alley, but if this isn’t for you, they’ve got many others. You can’t argue with free college with no papers to write.

Boing Boing’s Get Illuminated is only one episode deep, but they interviewed Douglas Rushkoff! The description is “Our patron saints are Robert Anton Wilson, Tim Leary, Church of the SubGenius, Discordianism.” What more do you want?

LearnItalianPod is a podcast I’ve been meaning to listen to more. I’ve listened to a few episodes, and they’re quite good, it’s just not something I can listen to (usefully) at work. Learning a language takes time, but this definitely came along at the right time.

The 43Folders podcast is for web geeks and other nerds and is about personal productivity and simple ways to improve things. Merlin (the host) may or may not be a cult leader, but if he is, I suppose I’m in his cult. Like most podcasts, it’s free, which is the cheapest entry fee I know of.
