Brian Eno talks about the idea of “The Long Now.”
This speech was given as part of the Long Now Foundation, who “seek to promote “slower/better” thinking and to foster creativity in the framework of the next 10,000 years.” Their current project is to build a clock “that ticks once a year. The century hand advances once every one hundred years, and the cuckoo comes out on the millennium. I want the cuckoo to come out every millennium for the next 10,000 years.” The clock was designed by Danny Hillis, one of the founders of the foundation, a computer scientist who “pioneered parallel computing,” the technology that allows for projects like SETI@Home, among other things.
The Long Now essay section is worth checking out as well.

Pitchformula is Loren from Starlister’s final project for his BA in Humanities over at U of C. Basically he parsed Pitchfork reviews and did a content analysis of the language with funny (and interesting) results.

Today I woke up, read some 1984 and drank some coffee, brushed my teeth, did some smooching, rode my bike, went swimming, rode back, ate some pb&j, i’m about to eat some mac and cheese then get some plants, then i’m going to the mca to check out some art then maybe get some pants then come back and make dinner then likely watch breathless.
It’s called LIVING THE DREAM.

Newsmap “is an application that visually reflects the constantly changing landscape of the Google News news aggregator.” Gorgeous way of displaying loads of information. This is probably one of the best uses of flash that I’ve ever seen.
Making Sense of Marcel Duchamp makes a lot of sense.
Steven Sagmeister aka the guy that cut himself up for the type in his poster(it’s in every graphic design book published in the last five years).

Geek Test. Extremely exhaustive. I’m at 44.3787% - Major Geek. Higher than that is just plain unhealthy.

Canada time!
“There is pending legislation in the House and Senate which will time the program’s initiation so the draft can begin at early as Spring 2005″
“College and Canada will not be options. In December 2001, Canada and the U.S. signed a “smart border declaration,” which could be used to keep would-be draft dodgers in.”
