I’m home. We couldn’t go to Venezuela because there is some revolutionary shit going on there. That’s ok.
Chicago>San Juan, Puerto Rico>Aruba>Grenada>Dominica>St. Thomas>St. John>San Juan>Atlanta>Chicago
Americans are annoying.
I have stories also.
And pictures.

People who respond to polls must be the most sarcastic motherfuckers in this country.
I watched a skate video that one of my friends made in a theatre last night. It made me not want to suck so bad at skating or have the option of being like 11 and sponsored.
Last April, the Morning News had a feature about Men’s dress clothes. I like it.

End of year lists are retarded to read but sort of fun to make. So in the spirit that this website always tries to keep alive of me being entertained and you sort of thinking who gives a shit here are some top five lists. I also do this because I like hearing what other people have to say on these topics (hint, hint as they say).

Top five shows of the year:
5. Explosions in the Sky - April 25, Abbey Pub
I’ve almost never seen a more exact set. Rocked.
4. Les Savy Fav - April 12?, the Metro
Here is some math to explain. Tim Harrington=God. Ladder+In the crowd=Rock and Roll. Short shorts+bloody shins-decency=rock.
3. Sonic Youth - August 18, the Metro
If there weren’t a guy in front of me totally getting a handjob right out in the open this might have been higher. Everything on stage was fucking perfect.
2. The Microphones - August 31st, the Odum
Made me want to move into a cabin on an island by myself and feel stuff. Beautiful.
1. Mogwai - May 25th, Fireside Bowl
If you like Mogwai, live in or around Chicago and missed this you are stupid. Probably best show ever. Fucking amazing.
Honorable mention goes to …And You Will Know Us By The Trail of Dead for rocking so hard and breaking their stuff so bad they couldn’t finish their set at the Metro.
Also Mr. Show Live which doesn’t really count as a ’show’ per se because it’s comedy, but if I were counting that it would definitley be in the top 5 because it was fucking hilarious (the hardest I’ve ever laughed at something that is planned and intended to be laughed at we’ll say) and Bob got me beer and then gave me his wristband which I then attached with a rubberband. It ruled.

Top 5 Albums of the Year (this year kind of sucked and I would do 10 but I can’t think of 10 good albums. whatever)
5. …And You Will Know Us By the Trail of Dead - Source Tags and Codes
Rocks from start to finish. You should already have played this one out for yourself.
4. Boards of Canada - Geogaddi
Ambient isn’t boring asshole.
3. Cornelius - Point
Super purty. Digital production wins this round.
2. Pedro the Lion - Control
Being sad has never made me so happy. Great production proves that David Bazan is actually a genius. Also proves that singing about Things can still be really, really good.
1. Sonic Youth - Murray Street
This has been relatively ignored for some reason I guess because it is so obviously fucking brilliant that if you don’t know that it’s the best album of the year you don’t deserve to listen to it or something? I don’t know the real reason but this ought to be all five of the top five spots it rips so hard.
Honorable mention going to Wilco - Yankee Hotel Foxtrot, not on this list for no other reason than not wanting to look like every other god damn top ten list out there. Played probably 1.5 times a day in my house on average since it came out, more than anything that actually made my list.
Also to The Streets - Original Pirate Material, which doesn’t make the list since I can’t listen to it twice in a row without being annoyed with it. But it’s good shit anyway, entertaining as hell.
Also to Sigur Ros - ( ) which didn’t make it because that’s a stupid fucking title for an album and it’s not as good as the one that has a title.

Top 5 examples of cultural retardation:
5. Rolling Stone’s continued transformation into the National Enquirer
4. The Real World: Las Vegas
3. Jay Leno
2. The Anna Nicole Smith Show
1. George W. Bush

Best moment on TV:
Chuck D. totally kissing Elvis’ ass on ABC which I’m sure was a tie in with that stupid fucking ELV1S album that nobody with half a brain got. What happened to Elvis was a heroe to some but never meant shit to me? What happened to Chuck D sucking dicks for the past 8 years. (fuck it I said it and don’t get me wrong PE rules but I’m talking about It’ll Take a Nation of Millions and Fear of a Black Planet era).

Stupidest compilations (aka you don’t like this band enough to get the box/we want to sell records and know people are dumb):
3. Nirvana - Nirvana
Courtney Love is a dumb ass bitch. Should have been a box set.
2. The Beatles - 1
This is stupid.
1. Elv1s
hahaha.

X-President of the Year:
Jimmy Carter
Remember when this country was trying to prevent the world from getting blown up?

Top movies is too early to call since Hollywood keeps the ones that a lot of people might like until Christmas when a lot of people have time to waste in movie theatres. I bet that Bowling for Columbine and maybe Punch Drunk Love will be on it.

Napping is the best. I have taken naps instead of lunch the past two days and they rule. Since they’re just for 30 minutes I am somewhat aware that I am asleep on the couch but at the same time I am definitely dreaming. Is it unhealthy to thing that getting something accomplished in a dream is pretty much the same as getting something accomplished when you’re awake? I could see that leading to a life of real world failure. At the same time though, I can usually get a lot of things done in my sleep and I wake up with the same sense of accomplishment.
The new Written in the Sand site is pretty much done, they just need to give me content.
I massively updated the links section. If you click on more links, you’ll see. I seperated my friends who use livejournal since it’s a lot of kids, but they aren’t real websites. Anyway, I’m still linking them. Also at some point, I had added links and they went away and so I put them back.

I shouldn’t feel guilty about coming in at 11, that’s what I scheduled myself for. The week is long.

Some things I learned this weekend:
My long time fear (not so much something I’m scared about, a better word might be suspicion) is that I am indeed shaped like a girl. It’s true, I tried on some pants and guess what, they fit. 12 Long for future reference. Now I know that the typical male purchaser of female pants is a gay man, but where better to look for fashion tips? Anyway, the pants were $50 so it was a no go anyway. If you see any cheddah it’s cheddah cheese.
Risk as an allegory for Life (as in living not the other board game): You can just sit there and build up your armies on a few spaces (like things your good at or ) and you’re going to have no territories (You will suck), or you can attack every round but then you’ll probably spread yourself too thin and get trounced. And then no matter how many hours you put into it, There Can Be Only One.
